Ukrainian-language audio guide in the Gallen-Kallela Museum
09 April 2024 19:58

A Ukrainian-language audio guide was launched in the museum of one of Finland's most famous artists, Akseli Gallen-Kallela, located in the city of Espoon kaupunki - Esbo stad - City of Espoo.

The symbolic launch button of the Ukrainian-language audio guide was pressed by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Finland, Olga Dibrova, and the Mayor of the city of Espoo, Jukka Mäkelä. Ukrainian students studying in Finland and Ukrainian residents of Espoo also participated in the event.

The audio guide in the Gallen-Kallela museum is already the third in Finland. The project is being implemented on the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska.

Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931) was a talented artist representing symbolism and realism, a true patriot of Finland. In his works, he aimed to show that Finns have their own history, culture, and language, and their place among the nations of the world. Gallen-Kallela constructed the image of Finnishness at a time when Finland was part of the Russian Empire, and later, alongside the great military leader Carl Gustaf Mannerheim, fought for Finland's independence. He also passed on his patriotism to his children—his son, Yorma, was killed by Soviet soldiers during the Winter War in 1939 while saving his comrade.

"If Akseli Gallen-Kallela were our contemporary, I am confident that he would do everything to support Ukraine in its struggle against the Russian occupant," noted Olga Dibrova.

The ambassador also thanked everyone involved in creating the Ukrainian-language audio guide: the museum director, Tuija Valrus, and the entire team of the Gallen-Kallela Museum; the voice of the audio guide, Tetiana Pitchulina; the Association of Museums of Finland Suomen museoliitto, which responded to the Embassy's call and provided grants for the launch of Ukrainian-language audio guides throughout the country; the city of Espoo and personally Mayor Jukka Mäkelä for supporting numerous initiatives to assist Ukraine and Ukrainians.

We invite all fellow citizens to visit the Gallen-Kallelan Museo to enjoy art and learn more about the life of the prominent artist and Finland! We thank the museum for providing Ukrainians with the opportunity to visit free of charge.

Moreover, to listen to the Ukrainian audio guide, it's not even necessary to be in Finland. Just follow the link: https://tarinasoitin.fi/gkm and discover the story of one of the most famous Finns - Akseli Gallen-Kallela.
