On November 19, 2024, a special hearing was held in the Finnish Parliament dedicated to 1,000 days of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine. Speaker of the Finnish Parliament Jussi Halla-aho delivered a speech, and members of Parliament honored the Ukrainians who lost their lives in the war with a moment of silence. Ambassador of Ukraine to Finland, Olga Dibrova, was the honored guest.
Key speeches were delivered by Finland's Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Elina Valtonen, as well as the leaders of all parliamentary party groups. Numerous Finnish legislators also participated in a discussion on the need to mobilize greater support for Ukraine to ensure its victory in the war.
The central themes of all the speeches were:
-
unwavering and unanimous support for Ukraine from all political parties in Finland, as well as from the Finnish people, since the very first days of the full-scale invasion;
-
critical need to provide Ukraine with extensive military assistance to support an effective defense, including air defense systems and funding for weapons production by Ukrainian manufacturers;
-
importance of economically isolating Russia, particularly by blocking the export of Russian oil via the "shadow fleet";
-
implementation of the
#PeaceFormula, which serves as the only guiding path toward a lasting and just peace based on the UN Charter.
All speakers unanimously reaffirmed Finland's commitment to stand by Ukraine for as long as necessary to ensure its victory, and after the victory, to support the effective reconstruction and long-term modernization of Ukraine. It was also repeatedly emphasized that peace in Ukraine must be based on Ukraine's terms.
