Ambassador of Ukraine to Finland, Olga Dibrova, made a speech as part of the events on the occasion of Lawyer's Day 2024, organized by the Finnish Bar Association
27 January 2024 18:00

The event dedicated to the rule of law was attended by about 1,500 representatives of the legal community of Finland and, in particular, the Minister of Defense of the country Antti Häkkänen.

"Today, my key message to all of you is: "fiat justitia ruat caelum" - let justice be done, even if the heavens fall," the Ambassador said in her speech, emphasizing that bringing Russia to justice is a joint duty of the entire international community. Only this will demonstrate to any state the real legal consequences of armed aggression and will be of decisive importance for the future world order."

In Olga Dibrova's speech:

  • She expressed the heartfelt gratitude of the entire #Ukrainian people for #Finland's extraordinary solidarity and all-round practical support - be it in defense, or in humanitarian and financial aid.

  • She noted the importance of implementing President Zelenskyy's #PeaceFormula as a universal and comprehensive vision of a just and sustainable peace.

  • She outlined that currently efforts to ensure Russia's responsibility are based on five important components:

- ensuring effective investigations at the national level;

- ensuring responsibility for the crime of aggression;

- continuation of strategic partnership with international mechanisms of justice;

- promotion of bilateral and multilateral interstate partnerships;

- ensuring that russia pays reparations to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in accordance with international law.

  • She welcomed the decision of the Finnish prosecutor's office to open an investigation into war crimes committed against wounded or captured Ukrainian soldiers by Russian citizen Voislav Torden, formerly known as Jan Petrovskyi.

  • She called on the Finnish legal community to contribute to raising international and national awareness of the critical importance of holding Russia accountable, and to creating the much-needed legal tools to do so.

We sincerely thank the Suomen Asianajajaliitto - Finlands Advokatförbund and personally its head, Hanna Räihä-Mäntyharju, for their constant support of Ukraine.
