In the framework of the official visit to Finland, the President had a meeting with Speaker of the Parliament of Finland Maria Lohela.
The Head of State expressed gratitude to the Finnish MPs for their firm position in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The parties discussed the security situation in Donbas as a result of the Russian aggression. The President thanked for the consistent support in the issue of preservation of sanctions against Russia.
The Head of State drew attention to the brutal violation of human rights in the temporarily uncontrolled territories of Ukraine and urged to facilitate efforts aimed to liberate Ukrainians from Russian prisons and captivity in Donbas.
The President also addressed the Finnish Parliament with a call for recognition of Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian nation.
The Head of State noted active work of the Finnish delegations in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Council of Europe in support of Ukraine.
The President emphasized willingness of Ukraine to further develop active dialogue with Finland, inter alia, at the parliamentary level. “I am hopeful that the inter-factional Group of Friendship with Ukraine recently formed in Eduskunta will promote intensification of parliamentary interaction between our states,” Petro Poroshenko said.
