On April 26, 2011 a seminar on commemoration of the 25 years from Chernobyl accident was held in Aleksanteri Institute of the Helsinki University.
Opening the seminar, Counselor of the Embassy of Ukraine Oleksii Selin briefed participants on the international events held in Kiev, noting importance of efforts of the international community aimed at completion of the Chernobyl projects and expressed appreciation to the Government of Finland for its contribution to Chernobyl Funds.
Head of the Ukrainian Community in Turku city, a doctor, Juliana Bilyakovych presented substantial report about the circumstances that led to the explosion at the plant, the extent of environmental contamination areas, the negative impact on the health and psyche of the people.
Head of expert group of Radiation and nuclear safety Authority of Finland (STUK) Heikki Reponen provided professional comment on the Chernobyl accident and on radiation safety in general.
