During a working visit to Warsaw on May 5, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with the Prime Minister of Iceland Katrín Jakobsdóttir. The parties discussed the consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine and the need to prolong sanctions pressure against the terrorist country.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine told that russia continued to block Ukrainian seaports, which poses a food crisis threat to the world. This is another crisis that russia is trying to generate after the energy and migration crisis.
"We cannot smothly deliver 90 million tons of agricultural products to Europe, Asia and Africa. We are discussing with our partners the need to create green transport corridors to safely deliver goods by sea. Otherwise, the world is threatened by a global food crisis that could last several years. This is a global challenge for the whole world," said the Head of the Ukrainian Government.
Denys Shmyhal stressed the importance of consolidating the efforts of the international community to stop russia and its attempts to undermine stability around the world. According to him, the world community must be united as never before to put pressure on russia and force them to stop the blockade of Ukrainian ports. It is crucial to secure the delivery of Ukrainian agricultural products and other goods to the EU.
"They are waging war not only against Ukraine, they are fighting against the whole democratic world. In order to be able to confront effectively and in a consolidated way, we need four things that I constantly emphasize on. Weapons, sanctions, financing of our country to maintain macrofinancial stability. The need to give Ukraine a European perspective also remains crucial," Denys Shmyhal stressed.
The Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, expressed her strong support for Ukraine and stressed the importance of continuing to provide humanitarian and financial assistance to our country and intensifying sanctions pressure on Russia.
