The event was officially opened by Ambassador of Ukraine Olga Dibrova:

"Ukraine and Iceland share common values and views. The opening of the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Iceland is a historically significant event and a symbolic step to strengthen cooperation between our countries."

The opening ceremony took place on June 18, 2024. Among the guests present were the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, high-ranking officials of the country, diplomats of foreign countries accredited in Iceland, representatives of business and the Ukrainian community.

Minister Tordis congratulated the opening of the Honorary consulate of Ukraine and said words of support important for every Ukrainian:"Ukraine must win!"

Congratulations on the appointment of Honorary Consul of Ukraine, businessman, public figure and financier Aðalsteinn Jóhannsson! Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, Mr. Jóhannsson has been providing assistance to Ukrainians who have found temporary protection in Iceland, and promotes the development of partnership between #Ukraine and #Iceland in the fields of culture, education, sports, etc.
