On May 2, 2022, Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, and Petri Honkonen, Minister of Science and Culture of the Republic of Finland, held an online meeting to discuss cultural cooperation between Ukraine and Finland and countering disinformation.
"I am grateful to Finland for severing any cultural ties with Russia from the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and countering Russian propaganda, including in the cultural sphere," said Oleksandr Tkachenko.
️The Minister of Culture and Information Policy outlined the areas of necessary support for Ukraine:
In the cultural sphere:

cooperation in the restoration of the Ukrainian cultural heritage damaged by russians;

support for Ukrainian cultural and artistic workers who were forced to move to Finland due to the war;

support for Ukrainian cultural institutions and artists who remain in Ukraine during the war;

funding grants from the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and the Ukrainian Book Institute.
In the field of media:

support for sanctions against russian propagandists at EU level; introduction of broadcasting of Ukrainian TV channels in Finland. On May 4, Finnish Broadcasting Company
Yle will start publishing news in Ukrainian language;

support for the Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security and the national media literacy project Filter, which are working to refute russian disinformation;
-
technical support with special equipment needed to restore the TV signal in areas where such equipment was destroyed by russian aggressors.
