Parliamentary elections in Ukraine must meet all democratic standards, be fair and transparent. It was stated by President Viktor Yanukovych in the course of the meeting with President of Finland Sauli Niinistö in New York.
“We will have Parliamentary elections on October 28 and hope that they will be fair, transparent and democratic,” the Head of Ukraine said. He reminded that in the course of the elections there would be a lot of observers from different countries, including Finland. “It is very important for us that the position of Finland is objective,” Viktor Yanukovych added.
In his turn, the President of Finland appraised the intention of his Ukrainian counterpart to facilitate holding of fair and democratic elections.
In the course of conversation the parties discussed bilateral Ukrainian-Finnish relations, European integration of Ukraine, cooperation with the EU and Russia, gas issues etc.
Speaking about Ukrainian-Finnish relations, Viktor Yanukovych particularly noted the acceleration of trade and economic collaboration between the countries.
The Head of State also expressed hope that Finnish Prime Minister would make a visit to Ukraine in 2013. He also added that Ukraine expected the visit of Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs at the beginning of the following year.
The President of Ukraine confirmed his invitation to the Finnish President to visit Ukraine.
