On 23-25 October 2020 the annual film festival "Ukrainian Film Days" took place in Helsinki. This year's event was conducted in the new and one of the most modern Finnish cinema "Cinamon".
The second secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Finland Viktoriia Kononchuk and the head of Ukrainian Association in Finland Tetyana Mustonen greeted the audience on the occasion of the opening of the festival.
"We are grateful that despite all the challenges of this year's pandemic, so many of you could join us today are share our celebration of Ukrainian cinema. We truly hope that this year’s festival will not only contribute to the promotion of Ukrainian cinema in Finland, but will also create cultural bridges between Finns and Ukrainians and become a platform for mutual dialogue and joint leisure. We wish you an enjoyable watching and unforgettable impressions", - mentioned Viktoriia Kononchuk.
Ms Tetyana Mustonen, in her turn, stressed that the Association plans to further develop the festival and to present Ukrainian cinema in other cities of Finland next year.
Winthin the framework of the first day of the film festival, there was a screening of the comedy "My thoughts are silent", directed by Antonio Lukić. Ukrainian actress Irma Vitovska-Vantsa greeted the audience with a short video on the occasion of film screening.
On the second day of the festival the audience watched the post-war drama "Atlantis", directed by Valentyn Vasyanovych, which Ukraine recently nominated for "Oscar 2021" in the category "Best International Feature Film".
At the closing day of the Festival, the viewers watched a comedy directed by Volodymyr Tykhyy "Lethal Kittens". After the screening, the participants had the opportunity to pose their questions in the format of a Zoom-conference to director Volodymyr Tykhyy and film producer Ulyana Suprun.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year's festival was held with a limited number of participants and in compliance with all sanitary and epidemiological recommendations of the Government of Finland.
Ukrainian Film Festival in Helsinki is organized by the Ukrainian Association in Finland, Independent Cultural Initiatives, in partnership with the Ukrainian Film State Agency, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Finland and Arts Promotion Center Finland.
