On October 8, 2022, the Ukrainian diaspora, as a sign of gratitude to Iceland for the warm reception of Ukrainian citizens who needed temporary protection, organized a festival called " Úkraína þakkar Íslandi / Ukraine thanks Iceland", which took place in the city of
Reykjavíkurborg.
Festival participants were awaited by a concert by Ukrainian artists, a free tasting of traditional Ukrainian dishes, photo and art exhibitions, a charity fair, master classes for children and adults, as well as a certificate awarding ceremony for high-ranking officials of Iceland, public figures, volunteers and sincere friends of Ukrainians.
Consul Daniil Kononenko visited the event on behalf of the Embassy of Ukraine in Finland and Iceland (with residence in Helsinki). The consul had the honor of presenting a letter of thanks from the Ukrainians in Iceland to the President of the Republic of Iceland, Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson; to express gratitude for the support of Ukraine and the valuable help provided by Iceland since the first days of the full-scale invasion of russia.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland Thórdís Gylfadóttir, Councilor of the City Mayor Einar Þorsteinsson also visited the festival.
