01 June 2022 21:00

On June 1, 2022, a documentary film by Lithuanian documentary filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravičius “Mariupolis” (2016) about the life of the city of #Mariupol during the war was shown at the European Commission in Finland.

The screening of the film was opened with an introductory speech by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Finland Olga Dibrova. The Ambassador highlighted the current events of the war in Ukraine and expressed her deep respect for artists and journalists who defend freedom of speech at the cost of their own lives.

The documentary "Mariupol 2" by Mantas Kvedaravičius won a special prize from the Cannes Film Festival jury. The tape was mounted from the material that the director shot before his death. He came to Mariupol in March and filmed the lives of civilians. In early April 2022, the director died at the hands of the russian occupiers.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of Mantas Kvedaravičius and the victims of the war in Ukraine.
