On 20 December 2021 the President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö had a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Presidents discussed the situation at the borders of Ukraine. President Niinistö confirmed Finland’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. President Niinistö stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomatic resolution of conflicts. He also repeated Finland’s commitment to the OSCE principles such as the sovereign equality of all states and refraining from the threat or use of force.
