On September 6, 2012 the presentation of the new Finnish-Ukrainian dictionary took place at the Helsinki University with support from the Embassy of Ukraine in Finland. The first professional bilingual dictionary is the result of several years’ hard work of Mr.Yurii Zub, Ukrainian translator from Finnish.
During the presentation, Ambassador of Ukraine Andrii Deshchytsya and Head of Department of Modern Languages of the Helsinki University Professor Arto Mustajoki congratulated the author with the release of the dictionary, which will become a new tool to improve mutual understanding and dialogue between the Finnish and Ukrainian nations. The presentation were welcomed by the representatives of Finnish society, educational and academic circles, the media, the Ukrainian diaspora and Finnish diplomats who worked in Ukraine and still don’t lose contact with our state.
This is the first bilingual dictionary of general vocabulary. It contains over 23,000 words and concluded on the basis of the best Finnish and Ukrainian lexicographical sources. Vocabulary in the dictionary corresponds to modern linguistic situation and is illustrated by numerous examples. The dictionary will be useful for students, teachers, translators, scholars, diplomats and for everyone interested in Finnish or Ukrainian.
