The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Finland, Association of Ukrainians in Finland and Suomi-Ukraina silta invite you to the event dedicated to a tragic event in the history of an autochthonous people of Crimean Peninsula – Crimean Tatars.

The guests of the event will be able to watch a Ukrainian feature film (with the English subs) Haytarma (2013) and talk via a skype-conference to a famous Ukrainian singer & finalist of this year’s Eurovision Contest Jamala (this year’s contest will take place in Stockholm in May).

Both Haytarma and Jamala’s song called 1944, which is Ukraine’s entry in this year’s Eurovision, is dedicated to a tragic event in the history – deportation of Crimean Tatars by Stalin in May of 1944.

The movie portrays a Crimean Tatar war hero, pilot Ametkhan Sultan. In May 1944, after the liberation of Sevastopol from Nazis, Ametkhan goes on vacation to his hometown of Alupka where he witnesses the deportation of his family.

The event will take place at the premises of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Finland (Vähäniityntie 9, 00570 Helsinki), on April 23, 2016, at 15.00.
