In 1932-33 Ukraine suffered from the terrible tragedy – the Holodomor as genocide by famine against the Ukrainian people which took away millions lives.
The communist regime not only tried to hide the truth about the Holodomor in Ukraine, but also to destroy permanently the memory of this crime. It was dangerous not just to write about it in the press, letters to the party "leaders" or to relatives abroad, but even to mention in private diaries. Any incautious record could destroy life, cause the decades in the GULAG camps.
However, despite all the dangers in the hardest times there were the people who felt their responsibility to future generations, could not remain silent, trying to tell the truth.
This year, at the 82nd anniversary of the Holodomor, we commemorate the People of the Truth - those who were not afraid to speak and write about the famine even in times when it could cost life.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Finland and the Association of Ukrainians in Finland invite you to the memorial service for commemoration the innocent Ukrainians who died of starvation during the Holodomor, and pay tribute to those who retained and spread the truthful information about the Holodomor.
Memorial service will take place in the Holy Trinity Church, Unioninkatu 31, Helsinki, on Saturday, 28 November, 2015, at 17 p.m.
