The main goal of the trip was to visit the University of Eastern Finland, one of the leading higher education institutions in the country.

While at the University, A.Olefirov met Prof. Jaakko Puhakka, Academic Rector of the University of Eastern Finland, and was being introduced to the School of Computing and the Border Studies at the Karelian Institute of the University of Eastern Finland.

During a meeting at the City Council, Mayor Karjalainen and Ambassador Olefirov discussed, in particular, the ways of enhancing economic and trade cooperation between Joensuu and the North Karelia and Ukraine.

Ambassador Olefirov have also visited the headquarters of the European Forest Institute (EFI) where he met its Director, Mr. Marc Palahi, and gave interview to Karjalainen newspaper.

The Embassy expresses its gratitude to the Director of International Relations of the University of Eastern Finland, Ms. Outi Savonlahti, Academic Rector, professors of the University, Myor Karjalainen, EFI Director Palahi for organizing the visit.
