The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly condemns Russia’s war against Georgia, which it began on August 07, 2008, the continued illegal occupation of Georgia's sovereign territories in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, as well as Russia’s occupation regime actions aimed at their actual annexation.
We reiterate our solidarity and reaffirm steadfast support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity in its internationally recognized borders, share the necessity of peaceful conflict resolution based on fundamental principles and norms of international law, as well as support the implementation of “A Step to a Better Future” peaceful initiative by the Government of Georgia.
Practice shows that the policy of appeasement of the aggressor, making Russian-Georgian conflict frozen, has untied the aggressor’s hands and resulted in the direct armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in February 2014.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the international community to continue consolidated measures to restore the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the states suffering from Russia’s aggressive policies.
These days, we stand together with Georgia in grief for the victims of war and, paying homage to their memory, share the pain of irreparable losses of the Georgian people.
